b'instructed the firm to sell the contents and on 10th December of that year the firm held a remarkable single owner auction that totalled in excess of 300,000.Almost every auction that I can remember would include exceptional items such as a Narwhal tusk over 8 feet long found in a barn in Bramley that sold for 10,500, a small yet exquisite oil painting on vellum by the obscure Swiss artist Joseph Werner (1637-1710) found in a Chelsea flat sold for 27,000, a world record for the artist at the time, and a charming George II painted wood doll, with original Spitalfields silk dress, that sold for 8,000 in 2001.Another memorable discovery was a comprehensive and very beautiful Chinese Qianlong porcelain tobacco leaf pattern part dinner service found in a garage in Hascombe. On unpacking the service our lovely porter Tony Fisher, found not only dishes, plates, tureens etc., but also one very angry mouse! Bids were received fromDoc Chandler at Walnut Tree Close Auction Rooms circa 1970s and Brian Clarke at Drill Hall for the Ministry of Defence Auction of around the world and despite the majority of itemsredundant war time machinerybeing damaged, the extraordinary price of 62,000 was achieved, paid by a collector, bidding on the telephone from beside his pool in Portugal!'
