HOLE-IN-ONE, TWICE IN SAME DAY!

Clarke Gammon Wellers’ inaugural Golf Day was blessed by the Golfing Gods with two holes-in-one recently at the magnificent Hindhead Golf Club.

Enjoying the hospitality of Clarke Gammon Wellers were developers and solicitors with whom the long established firm of Estate Agents, Chartered Surveyors and auctioneers enjoy successful relationships.

Morale for the day was high and Handicaps were low, however, golfing abilities were tested, as an already challenging course was made tougher due to tight heather edged fairways and manicured lightening fast greens in preparation for the regional qualifying tournament for the British Open Championships.

Of the forty eight who played, two men will be remembered for their feats – John Cook and Peter Hunt – both managed holes-in-one. The first miracle shot, achieved by Peter Hunt, was made with a pitching wedge at the sixth hole, a par 3 of 139 yards. Commenting on his achievement, Hunt claimed that it was a fluke shot, “I just wanted to get it close to the green,” said Hunt. “I don’t usually hug men, but on this occasion; I was so thrilled!” added Hunt.
John Cook aced his on par 3, of 166 yards, the tenth hole. His witnesses watched in sheer disbelief as his well-placed five-iron shot danced onto the green and dropped into the cup.

True to Golfing tradition John Cook bought the house a drink, and as the clubhouse was full of thirsty golfers, Cook’s generous offering of Champagne was well received “That’d better be my last hole in one” joked Cook.

The prize giving that followed the sumptuous dinner at Hindhead Golf Club, was lead by Tony Jamieson, Senior Partner a Clarke Gammon Wellers and Mark Steward, Partner at the firm’s Haslemere office.

The winners of the 9 hole texas scramble were Justin Yaxley of Clarke Gammon Wellers, Clive Woods, Managing Director of Beckbridge Ltd. and Gordon Reid, Solicitor and Partner at Barlows of Guildford.

Rod Donald, Managing Director of the Strathmoor Group received the Clarke Gammon Wellers Challenge Cup and a Print personally signed by golf legend Peter Alliss, for winning the individual 18 hole Stableford. And picking up first prize for the Team Yellow Ball Stableford was Roger Atkinson of Arcadia Ventures Ltd., Alberto DeVivo of Oakhill Financial Services and Mark Turner of Premier Properties Ltd.

Commenting on the highlights of a successful day’s golf, Jamieson said: “Sinking a hole-in-one in golf is virtually unthinkable, much like the one-in-a-million odds of being struck by lightening or winning the lottery. But to have two in one day at our inaugural golf day is superb; it’s certainly set the benchmark for next year”
